Add An About Page And Get More Loyal Readers

March 11th, 2007 · 14 Comments · 2,172 views

I think all blogs (especially personal blogs) should have an “about” page to tell the readers who’s behind the blog. That’s why I present to you: Who Is Hannes Johnson?

Hannes JohnsonI believe an about page can help bloggers get more loyal readers - people that know a little about you might feel a “connection” and are more likely to come back again to read your blog. A picture of the author should also help give it a more personal touch - people often want to put a face to the name.

It also helps build trust when people know a few things about you. Since I’m selling and recommending products online people might be wondering “is Hannes Johnson a scam artist?” - I’ve actually gotten hits on my sites from people using this search engine query. I was a little shocked when I saw it in my stats - but I actually thought it was funny. This is just one of the things that come with success and being more prominent on the interwebs ;)

Is there something that you look for in a typical “about” page? Something that you want to know about the author(s) of blogs that you read? If you have any questions or want to get some more details let me know - in the comments or through the contact form.

Yes, he is a scam artist! ;)

I think it’s something every personal blog (well, all blogs really) need to give that “I’m not a scam artist” feel.

Great Post! I totally believe in the About Me page and think that it’s a great way for users to get to know you a little bit better. I’m thinking of posting recent pictures on there, but I don’t know if that’s gonna attract or detract people :)

About Me pages are a great way to make the readers feel like they know you. Afterall they get to know about you from reading your blog, your mannerisms, your flaws, what you like, what you don’t like, what you believe in, etc. all this is through your writing. I think about me pages are a great way to develop a good relationship with your readers ;)

As a Blogger user with a blog hosted with Blogger, I don’t have as much flexibility with my site. Nonetheless, my workaround for an About section was to add it just above the footer. I added an About button to my site’s navigation menu that then jumps to the About section. It’s straightforward and it works.

Our “About Us” page getting a fair amount of hits each page which tells us that Bloggers/Readers do care about who is the voice behind the blogs.

I would say at least give an introduction of yourself and what you hope your blog can achieve :)

    Pictures help too,
It helps me relate to the author a little more, yes he is a real person.

I have one, but I need to finish it up. I think it’s also a good idea to have a pic of yourself on the front. People like to feel like they are talking to s real person, and an about page is like an introductory conversation:)

Bobby - Yeah, I’ve been considering adding a photo of myself to the top of the sidebar or even in the header graphics…

I’ve become a slow convert to my About page. :) I added a pic and slowly I am adding more personal info.
