Why Write When Nobody Is Reading Your Blog?

January 8th, 2007 · 3 Comments · 1,199 views

It’s only been a couple of hours since my first post and so far nobody has visited my blog. That doesn’t surprise me really…

But I was wondering - why should people with new blogs bother writing if there is nobody reading it? It’s kind of like the chicken and the egg - if you don’t have fresh content nobody is going to read your blog on a regular basis.

However, the first few posts on a new blog aren’t a total waste of time. These posts will be archived and linked to within the blog so they’ll get indexed by the search engines and you might get a few new visitors if your first posts rank well. Content is always content and you have to start somewhere.

Then, when you’ve got a few loyal readers you’ll be motivated to write more often - and you’ll probably be even more motivated when you have a few hundred, even a few thousand readers. You might even put more effort into writing better blog posts.

Because I’ve been marketing online for a few years I have some resources I can use. I have a webpage with PageRank 5 and a bunch of PR4 pages - so I’m going to add a link to the blog on a few of those. I’ll also e-mail my mailing lists once I have a couple more posts. Then I’m going to add a link to my blog to the signature of the forums I visit. And when I’m commenting on other blogs in my niche I’m going to put the URL of the blog in the “website” field.

That’s just a few of the things I’m going to do to promote my new blog - Plenty of other things I can do… I might report on that in another post.
